The Richmond PD School Resource unit is comprised of eight dedicated officers who work the high schools and middle school of Richmond. We have two officers specifically assigned to Richmond High, De Anza High, and Kennedy High. We also have an officer assigned to Lovonya DeJean Middle School and Greenwood Academy. These officers are assigned to provide a safe and secure environment at these schools for the students, staff and the administrators. Through the School Resource Officer’s expertise and resources they maintain order and discipline needed in the school environment. The School Resource Officer also ensures that no student’s right to receive an education is interfered with by violence or other disruption.
The School Resource Officers work closely with staff and administration of their school to develop a safety and disaster preparedness plan. The School Resource Officer has the responsibility to handle all calls for service at their assigned schools and coordinating response of other police resources to the school.
The School Resource Officers also participate in various mentoring programs, task forces, Police Activities League and truancy programs within their schools, as well as, discipline and counseling of students. The School Resource Officers conduct formal presentations to classes, or participate in school based community meetings.
